![]() “In 1967 all three owners had contact and experience with the 1960s music revolution, which was predominantly live music, and the club featured many legendary names of the period - Bill Haley and his Comets, Fleetwood Mac, Georgie Fame, Elton John, John Mayall, Long John Baldry, Maynard Ferguson, Ronnie Scott - to name just a few. Prior to its closure, owner Bob Archer said: "Everybody at Pantiles is determined in the time left available to celebrate 40 years under the same ownership, with special appreciation to the many members who have nostalgic memories of great times enjoyed under the old beamed roof. Student night at Pantiles nightclub in Bagshot (Image: Alistair Wilson) Many Woking residents, past and present, will have great memories of their time spent at The Atalanta. The building was originally the Sunday School and Manse of the Wesleyan Chapel. More of a music venue than a nightclub, The Atalanta ballroom in Woking, or The Ata as it was also known, was famous locally for its sprung dance floor, which was supposed to be one of the best in Surrey, if not the south-east.īefore it closed in 1974, it was a venue for shows and pop concerts. Locals took on the decks and there was a great music scene there. Remember the days of the Jazzmine? That little place with the low ceiling in Broadway, where it got so warm, you couldn't stop buying drink after drink just to keep yourself hydrated in its tropical climes. The former Chameleon bar, which later closed and re-opened under a new name, has now been taken on and transformed by social media personality, Dapper Laughs. You didn't forget your disposable camera, either. In Chameleon you waited at the bar for your sambuca shots, listened to the tunes thanks to DJ Leroy Wilson and then headed to Quake to dance the night away, probably to numerous garage tunes. The bright lights of Chameleon then called you as you queued and hoped your outfit met the dress code and then decided whether you would just buy a joint Chameleon/Quake ticket. The dancefloor and stage (Image: Darren Pepe) Sadly the once attractive building was demolished in 2014, as the town said farewell to another part of its heritage. ID was checked by the burly bouncers and you then headed off into the darkness to see what the night had to offer.Ĭrazy coloured carpet and two floors of nightclub to explore, a night at Bo's, which was previously a cinema, was certainly memorable. Remember the days of a night out in Bo's in Guildford? The queues used to be out the door as clubbers waited to make their way into the two-floor club in Woodbridge Road. We haven't included all the venues across Surrey but would love to hear your memories of any that do not feature on our list, so we can add them on and keep the nostalgia alive. SurreyLive has looked back on some of the county's best nightspots over the years. Yet the memories you have of dancing until your feet ached or listening to the songs of your favourite singer or band will stay with you forever. Sadly some of the buildings have either been demolished or transformed into something new. Some have reopened a number of times but under new names. Many of the nightclubs in the county from the past 30 or more years are all but a distant memory. The time I went, compared to clubs in Vegas, it was rather empty.Sticky floors, cheap drinks, garishly patterned carpets, great tunes and good memories. **If the guys of the group have to pay $40/person to get in, even while being a guest, I would NOT recommend it. If anything get your drinks from the casion while gambling and dance the night away in Club Aura. We asked an employee when "it got poppin'" and he replied "After 1230AM". I would recommend for young adults to check out Club Aura on a Friday or Saturday. I was able to get free drinks from partying VIPers and a manager - they were strong. There weren't many people - lots of room to dance around. There are roped off sections for the "VIP tables" and depending on the size of the party, the dance floor can get smaller due to the movable ropes. ![]() Gents - vneck, button up, slacks, boat shoes, closed toe shoes.Ĭlub: The club itself is comparable to the smaller ones of Vegas (such as 1Oak). ![]() (Although I saw a lady in flip flops with a neon maxi dress?) I would advise the following: Ladies - dresses, heels/wedges, flats. ![]() For MALE guests on Thursday there was no cover charge, on Friday it was $25/person.Īttire: No flip flops, no shorts. The club is located up a long flight of stairs (no elevators, so ladies with sky high heels - heed warning & for those VERY drunk, it would be a very painful fall).Įntrance Fee: For LADY guests it was free both nights. ![]() Location: The club is located in the Royal Towers of the Atlantis Resort towards the edge of the Casino floor. ![]()
